It seems Anjan Dutta has become a constant in Srijit Mukherji’s films in recent years including two of the biggest hits of 2018 – ‘Uma’ and ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’. In Srijit’s upcoming relationship drama ‘Shah Jahan Regency’, the actor-director will reprise the famous character essayed by the legendary Utpal Dutt in Pinaki Mukherji’s ‘Chowringhee’ (1968), an adaptation of Mani Shankar Mukherjee’s (Shankar) eponymous novel.
“I had a great time while shooting. I have really enjoyed my portion of work. It’s a story revolving around transitions and time and Srijit’s success lies in superbly capturing the transformations in their true essence,” said Anjan Dutt.
Speaking about Uttam Kumar’s portrayal of another iconic literary character Sata Bose in the 1968 film, Dutt pointed out what was missing in that film, “The film molded the actual story into a one character affair. With all respect to mahanayak he (Uttam Kumar) was, I believe ‘Chowringhee’ is mainly a story of several characters infesting the hotel. The hotel is like a world and all of the characters in it share equal importance.”
Bankrolled by SVF and Match Cut, ‘Shah Jahan Regency’also features Parambrata Chatterjee, Abir Chatterjee, Mamta Shankar, Swastika Mukherjee, Anirban Bhattacharya, Rittika Sen, Rituparna Sengupta, Rudranil Ghosh, and Kanchan Mullick in pivotal roles.
The film is releasing on January 18.
