Srijit Mukherji had to call Rudranil Ghosh, who plays the titular role in Vinci Da, umpteen times to the premiere of the film at a city multiplex on Friday evening. “I was shooting for Birsa Dasgupta’s film, so I could manage just half an hour to attend the premiere, and that too after lot of adjustments, as we were shooting outdoors. And from Friday morning, Srijit called me at least for 12 times to make sure I drop in. Each time, he would say, ‘Be happy doing Birsa’s film. You can jolly well disown Vinci Da. No need to attend the premiere or visit halls with us.’ I must tell you, Srijit is like a baby when it comes to his films,” Rudranil told us with a laugh.
Srijit, who loves to make thrillers, which is perhaps his favourite genre, was overwhelmed by the appreciation he received after the film’s screening. “I am blown away with the reactions. People are saying, ‘Srijit is like Virat Kohli on a flat wicket when it comes to thrillers. So, what more can I ask for? In fact, Bumbada (Prosenjit Chatterjee) was joking that why didn’t I cast him in Ritwick’s (Chakraborty) role as a serial killer, as both of us have proven in the past that we click when it comes to thrillers. Shibu (Shiboprosad Mukherjee) in his usual style said, ‘Srijit, thrillers and the superhit tag go hand in hand,’ said the filmmaker with a smile.
Sohini Sarkar, who was looking pretty in a white dress at the premiere and plays Jaya — a speech impaired girl — in the film, just loved the response the film received. “The story of Vinci Da is about an obsessed makeup artist, struggling to carve his niche in the industry based on his talent and capabilities. But for me, it’s more of a love story that of Jaya and Vinci Da,” the actress signed off.
