Are you ready for this road trip-turned-horror flick?

    May 6, 2019 Publication : epaper.timesgroup

Shabbir Mallick’s debut film, Bhoot Choturdoshi, is a newgeneration adventure road trip film that turns into a horror flick. It is a roller coaster ride that combines elements of horror, psychological thriller and a coming-of-age story. It follows the journey of four people in their 20s-Rono (Aryann), Shreya (Ena), Pritha (Deepsheta) and Debu (Soumendra) as they head out to an abandoned house near Bolpur to shoot a documentary.

Mainak Bhaumik has penned the story of this film and is also the creative director. “I have always felt that horror was one of the most ignored genres in India and more so in Bengal. After making Generation Ami, I decided to write a horror story. The first one that hit my paper was a story that revolves around the young generation. I also felt it was time to hand over the directorial hat to my friend and longtime associate director, Shabbi,” said Mainak, he said, adding, “Ask any middle-aged Bengali and Omen and The Exorcist are sure to feature on their list of 10 best Hollywood films. Why Bengal hasn’t produced too many horror films is baffling.”

Talking about Shabbir and the cast, Mainak said, “Shabbir has the technical knowledge and is open to ideas. He is a sorted guy and very particular about what he wants from his team. Aryann has been popular in Srijit Mukherji’s Kakababu franchise, Ena has been doing some films here and there, Soumendro is involved in theatre, Deepsheta worked as VJ. So they are all talented and fresh faces who don’t get the chance to prove themselves. I hope Bhoot Choturdoshi finds an audience, so just like thrillers, the horror genre will open up in Bengal as it is a treasure trove of horror stories.”
