Golondaaj is a historical drama feature showcasing the journey of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, known as the ‘Father of Indian Football’, the first Indian to ever play football and thereby, introducing it as a mainstream sport in the country!
The love for football amongst Bengalis’ dates back to the late 1800s, when an Indian and more importantly a Bengali, imagined and dared to imbibe Football amongst people by opening several professional clubs for the sport. His win over British club East Surrey Regiment in Trades Cup was the first-ever win for any Indian club in a major tournament.
Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari and his immense contribution to this sport became the standpoint of Bengalis’ love for football. The story of the film is inspired by true incidents from an extremely illustrious period of the Bengal renaissance. It’s the story of the man who took his team to this heroic victory in a thrilling author-backed role.
The film also narrates how one man goes on to challenging the existing social structure and leading the way like a true leader on the field…the ripples of his action resonates across the country.
