BENGALI FILM TRAVELS TO MAJOR INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVALS
Srijit Mukherji’s Uma is embarking on a prestigious journey. The film is an official selection at many festivals around the world. It has been confirmed as an official selection at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) 2018, London Indian Film Festival (LIFF) 2018 and the India Film Festival of Alberta (IFFA) 2018. “I am overwhelmed that Uma has got such an auspicious start. I also feel that somewhere Evan (Leversage) is watching over us. It is incredible to know that the pragmatic story of Uma is being accepted so positively by the film fraternity across the world. I’m humbled by the acclaim the film is receiving,” said the director.
Uma is an ingenious feature film inspired by the true story of Evan Leversage, a Canadian boy who was diagnosed with a terminal disease. The people of St George in Ontario, Canada, came together to celebrate an early Christmas for Evan because doctors feared he might not make it till December. Uma centres around a young girl who is fighting a terminal disease. She dreams of organising a Durga Puja at her house and her father works hard to make it happen.
In the film, Uma, played by Sara Sengupta, is brought up in Austria. The story goes on to tell how Himadri, her father, played by Jisshu U Sengupta, takes her to Kolkata to fulfil her dream by setting up a fake Durga Puja.
