SVF Cinemas enters North Bengal

Kolkata: SVF Cinemas, one of the leading movie theatre chains in eastern India, has forayed into north Bengal. It is setting up a two-screen multiplex in a Jalpaiguri mall developed by PRM Begraj. A spokesperson of SVF said that it would be the first multiplex in Jalpaiguri. Currently, Jalpaiguri has a miniplex. Apart from this, there are two Inox in Siliguri, one Inox in Darjeeling and one Carnival in Siliguri.

SVF Cinemas is currently present in Baruipur, Narendrapur, Krishnanagar, Mogra, Nowapara, Purulia, Giridih, Bolpur, Sheoraphuli, Kalyani, Memari and Kolkata. “Apart from setting up brand new properties across eastern India, SVF Cinemas aims to modernize conventional single-screen cinemas into mixed-use properties with multiple screens,” the spokesperson added.

Besides SVF-produced Bengali films, these cinemas exhibit Hollywood, Bollywood and Tollywood films. “SVF has successfully ventured into various other businesses — film and television content production, film distribution, digital cinema (Qube), music and now new media, with Hoichoi, the one-stop destination for Bengali entertainment, targeting Bengalis in India and the Bengali diaspora,” the spokesperson added.

SVF Cinemas is planning to set up new multiplexes in Narendrapur, Chinsurah, Baranagar, Kharagpur, Coochbehar, Tezpur and Dibrugarh.
