Sunil Rodrigues loved directing Abir and Jisshu’s action sequences
Bollywood action director Sunil Rodrigues, who is known for his work in Drishyam, Slumdog Millionaire, Mukkabaaz, Singham Returns, Happy New Year and Simmba, among other films, has designed the action sequences in Mainak Bhaumik’sthriller Bornoporichoy, which brings Bengal’s two most desirable men, Jisshu U Sengupta and Abir Chatterjee together in lead roles for the first time. Speaking to us about his experience of working in Kolkata, Sunil said, “This is my first Bengali film and I loved working in it. I had gained few kilos when I was working in this film. I was on biryani and sweets when shooting in Kolkata. I must say that both Abir and Jisshu are flexible actors and did all the fight sequences with ease. I was impressed how Jisshu did the fight stunts with the bike and Abir jumped from the eight floor. Both were fabulous! Not for once did they say that they won’t do any specific fight sequence. The director too was super cool.” Two men – Arko (Abir), a man who has nothing to lose and Dhananjoy (Jisshu), a man who lost everything, are locked in a gripping cat-and-mouse chase in the film. While Arko goes on a killing spree which always end up in riddles, Dhananjoy loses his family and job as he becomes obsessed in trying to uncover the truth. A dizzying suspense thriller with edge-of-the-seat moments, Bornoporichoy is an adventure of good versus evil. It is a roller-coaster ride that studies the grammar of death.
Sunil added, “After Bornoporichoy I got an offer to work in Sesh Theke Suru by Raj Chakrabarty and it was indeed fun working in that unit. Raj is Kolkata’s Rohit Shetty! And Jeet is so good with action. He asked me to work in Panther, but sadly, I couldn’t adjust dates. Now, I got an offer to direct Koel Mallick in a new film.”
