Srijit Mukherji on ‘Uma’: This project is very close to my heart and so is Sara

The wait is over. The trailer of Srijit Mukherji’s much-anticipated movie ‘Uma’ has been released amidst festive celebrations at Kolkata’s famous Shobhabazar Rajbari. It was a star-studded gala event.
The trailer starts with a soul-stirring song by singer-actress Surangana Bandyopadhyay. The titular character Uma (Sara Sengupta) enters the scene in traditional Bengali attire, while her father Himadri (Jisshu Sengupta) tries to catch up with the little girl. It somehow takes us to the amazing world of Uma, a joyful young girl, who is suffering from a terminal disease.
Jisshu’s daughter Sara is making her big screen debut with this Srijit directorial and the director himself reveals, “I have created the vibrant character of ‘Uma’ only keeping in mind Sara. The same thing happened with Prosenjit Chatterjee’s character in 2010. I must admit Sara is the perfect girl to play Uma. I couldn’t have done the film without her.”

Srijit also explained, “This project is very close to my heart and so is Sara. I am pleased to see she is entering this industry with my film. The trailer highlights how far a father can go to make his daughter smile. Uma’s story will resonate the symbolisation of hope along with the power of unity.”
‘Uma’ is scheduled to release on June 1. Watch the trailer here:
