Mainak to introduce a teenage detective

Mainak Bhaumik is all set to begin his next venture — Goyenda Junior. Rwitobroto Mukherjee will play the titular role in this film. Mainak will introduce a new detective through the movie. Rwitobroto, who worked with the director in Generation Aami, is excited about the project. He said, “The film is not only about a detective, it also traces Bikram’s (my character) crisis in life and how he deals with the hurdles that a 16-year-old faces. Bikram is a sharp, witty boy, who is good in studies, loves to read crime thrillers, likes a girl in his class and it is by his sheer intelligence that he solves a crime. Even though he is like any boy his age, Bikram is a loner having lost his parents at an early age. He stays with his uncle, who is a cop. It is his uncle who asks him to accompany him to work, so that his mind gets diverted. And there Bikram gets cracking on a case. It is not that he has a detective mind. The film is about a teenage guy and his problems; crime is a part of it,” said the actor.

There will be another important character in the film, whose casting is yet to be finalised. “The character is called Sanjoy, who works in the crime branch and notices Bikram’s talent for investigation. I am in talks with stage actor Krishnendu Adhikari for this role as this character is very important,” said the director. With this film, which will go on the floors from end July and will be shot in Kolkata, Mainak officially enters the detective genre and will be gifting a completely new series to the movie-goers. “For the past five-six years I was wanting to do a detective film. I feel there is a hidden detective in all of us and he/she wants to come out in some form or the other. So, at last, I am ready with one though it is not an out-an-out detective film,” said Mainak.

About how he ended up casting Rwitobroto and what will make his detective stand out, the director said, “I share a great rapport with Rwitobroto. There is a sharpness in his eyes, which is needed to play this character. He has no traits of a detective but happens to be a normal 16-year-old boy, who is intelligent.”
