Iman’s music video deals with human misery during displacement

Kolkata, Dec 4 (PTI): Human misery at the time of displacement and conflict is the subject of a new music video by national award-winning playback singer Iman Chakraborty.

Titled ‘Ghure Darao – Ekhane Iman’, the video shows the travails of refugees with no country to call their own.

“I was disturbed on seeing the picture of a dead migrant child floating in the sea off the Libya coast. I cried on seeing the photo … how helpless ordinary people can be when they have to leave their own land, how children can be the worst sufferers.

“This prompted me to make a video with the theme of human misery at the time of serious crisis, like partition and conflict,” Iman told PTI here.

The singer said the pain and sufferings of migrants are universal all over the world, be it at the time of partition in 1947 or the more recent Rohingya crisis.

“Common man becomes the worst sufferer in every such situaton. And I sought to capture that feeling,” she said.

In these troubled times, when key human values have been pushed to the edges, I hope this song touches hearts, she said.

The video, with haunting images of barbed wire, people packed in boats and flames around, was released on SVF’s YouTube channel last week. The lyrics of the song talks about shattered dreams and deaths – “katomanush morle bodle jaoa jay/ katota swapno purle uriye dewa jay (how many deaths can bring the change?/how many dreams can be burnt to ashes.

“One of the lines ‘uttar khuje nebo tai’ (thus we will find an answer) seeks to find an answer to all our problems.

Are we not looking for an answer to the multiple crisis situations we are faced with every day?”, Iman – who has hit albums like ‘Setu’ (Rabindrasangeet), Hridashoney (folk songs) to her credit — said. PTI SUS MM RMS .
