How Evan’s story became the story of Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Uma’?

After the release of Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Uma’, Evan Leversage and his mother Nicole Wellwood are not so unfamiliar names to Bengali movie buffs anymore. The recently released film is actually inspired by an incident of arranging an untimely Christmas for the seven-year-old Evan.

During a recent interview, Nicole Wellwood revealed how she became a part of ‘Uma’. “I was first approached by Srijit on Facebook. He had already read about Evan’s incident and was literally moved by it. Then he approached me how about making a film inspired by Evan’s life story and I was quite shocked to see such admiration.” said Nicole.

Meanwhile, Srijit remembers: “Nicole was moved to see that Evan’s story had stirred me emotionally. When we were discussing the project, we were both overwhelmed.”

Uma seems to have won millions of hearts. As the audience shower love on the film with teary eyes, it makes Srijit so happy. “The emotional response to Uma has been so overwhelming that I’m touched. I have been visiting theatres, meeting people and reading reviews on social media — it’s all very heartening,” says an elated Srijit Mukherji.
