‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ bags this prestigious award

Last year ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ saw the return of Srijit Mukherji to the main strength of his craft who loves to put aside over-indulgence which have made all his recent films average for the last few years.

And now the multi-starrer Bengali blockbuster of 2018 has been named among the top three Bengali films of 2018 according to the All India Film Critic’s Guild in the Critic’s Choice Film Awards along with two other Bengali films from last year, Pupa and Rainbow Jelly.

Srijit makes this film unique with a good subject, nice cinematic pace and some extraordinary performances. The subject and acting part needs special mention. Also, the grandeur and aura of the particular British colonial period is superbly built up with the profound production design and Indraadip Das Gupta’s amazing music.

However, it loses the grip a bit in the cinematic build up because of some unnecessary subplots. But it’s actually the strength of the performances, especially Jisshu Sengupta and Jaya Ahsan, guides ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ rise back to glory.
