Bickram Ghosh has his hands full

Even though percussionist Bickram Ghosh is happy with the success of Durgeshgorer Guptodhon’s music, he has no time to celebrate. The music director is busy with five upcoming projects, including Girish Malik’s next film, Band of Maharajas.

Bickram, who is also acting in Band of Maharajas, said that the story has an Indo-Pak-Afghan backdrop. “So, there has been extensive use of Sufi music and a lot of collaboration with Afghan artistes,” he said. Without wanting to reveal much about the film, Bickram said that he had to do extensive research to bring out the real flavour of the region. “I have composed the background score for the film and tried to make it as real as possible,” he added. The film will release at the end of this year. Besides Band of Maharajas, he is also working on two of Arindam Sil’s upcoming films.

The music of Dhrubo Banerjee’s Durgeshgorer Guptodhon has been particularly praised because the songs in the film have not been used in the traditional way. There are about four songs in the film and the music has been used as clues to unfold the mystery in the film. That’s why the songs were not just a part of the film, but also part of the narrative. “The music of Guptodhoner Sondhane was also done by Ghosh and as the adventure of the film intensifies, the scope and rendition of music also get bigger,” Dhrubo told us before signing off.
