Aparna Sen to direct Anjan Dutta in E Juger Ghare Baire
Anjan Dutta will play an important role in Aparna Sen’s upcoming film E Juger Ghare Baire, a modern adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s novel Ghare Baire, earlier adapted to the big screen by Satyajit Ray. The film stars Jisshu Sengupta as Sandip, Anirban Bhattacharya as Nikhilesh and Tuhina Das as Brinda, a modern take on the original character Bimala.
Dutta will essay the character of Mastarmoshai, earlier played by Manoj Mitra in Ray’s film starring Soumitra Chatterjee, Victor Banerjee and Swatilekha Sengupta.
In an interview with The Times Of India, Dutta confirmed the news and said, “It is important for me as a filmmaker to collaborate with a director colleague. Though it is not my film, the project is very important. It is equally important for me as an actor to be a part of a film even if I am not playing a major role because the film itself is important. To me, Aparna Sen’s modern take on Rabindranath’s Ghare Baire is again one such script.”
Sen has previously directed Dutta in Yuganta (1995), Mr. & Mrs. Iyer (2002) and in a documentary on Kolkata. The artistes will be soon seen as co-actors in Srijit Mukherji’s Ek Je Chhilo Raja. Dutta, who feels that Sen’s film can turn into one of the best screen adaptations on Tagore, previously used to harbour the wish to play Sandip on screen one day. However, the artiste now feels that he is not suitable for the character due to his age.
Sen, on other hand, was quoted as saying, “Anjan Dutta is the best actor we have in Bengal. He is even comparable to the best actors in the country. And I am honoured to work with him once again.”
