Anjan Dutt roped in to play a pivotal role in Aparna Sen’s Ei Juger Ghawre Bairey
Last week we told you that Aparna Sen will don the hat of a director with Ei Juger Ghawre Bairey that will see Anirban Bhattacharya, Jisshu Sengupta and Tuhina Das essay the lead characters of Nikhilesh, Sandip and Brinda. The latest news is that actor-director Anjan Dutt has been roped in to play a pivotal role in the modern adaptation of the Satyajit Ray classic of 1984.
Sen had earlier directed Dutt in a documentary based on Kolkata and National Award winning films like Yugant and Mr And Mrs Iyer. The two have also worked as co-actors in Mrinal Sen’s Ek Din Achanak in 1990 and Mahaprithivi in 1991. Incidentally, they will also be seen sharing screen space in Srijit Mukherji’s Ek Je Chhilo Raja that is slated for a Durga puja release this year.
In Ei Juger Ghawre Bairey, Dutt will play Mastarmoshai, which literally translates as teacher, who has taught Nikhilesh and Sandip. In Ray’s Ghare Baire, the character of Mastarmoshai was played by veteran theatre, television and film actor, Manoj Mitra.
The film will be set amidst the current political fabric and will centre on the complex love triangle of the protagonists. The film is set to go on floors on September 21 and will be shot in parts of Kolkata and Bolpur among other places. It will be cinematographed by Soumik Haldar. Mahendra Soni and Shrikant Mohta will produce the romantic-drama under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films.
